Specialized Support Programs for Adoptive Families

Parent Cooperative Community offers specialized support programs designed to strengthen adoptive families and address unique challenges. Our evidence-based family support programs help adoptive parents develop skills to create nurturing, healing environments for their children.

Building Stronger Adoptive Families

Adoptive parenting often requires specialized skills and approaches that differ from traditional parenting.

Our family support programs provide adoptive parents with the tools, resources, and community they need to thrive. We focus on building parental capacity, strengthening family connections, and creating supportive environments where healing can occur.

These programs are designed to complement our wraparound services, offering specific skill development and support options tailored to the unique needs of adoptive families.

"PCC had the best program in my opinion, both for parents and for the kiddos. The kiddos aren't always the issue. Sometimes we are too."

- Angela, Adoptive Parent

Our Approach to Family Support

Trauma-Informed Parenting Education

Learn evidence-based approaches to parenting children with trauma histories. Our educational programs help parents understand the impact of early experiences on development and behavior, and provide strategies for creating healing environments.

Personalized Parent Coaching

Our experienced coaches work one-on-one with parents to develop skills and strategies specific to adoptive parenting. Coaching sessions focus on understanding your child's unique needs, implementing effective responses, and building stronger connections.

Specialized Support for Unique Situations

We offer targeted support for families facing specific challenges, including:

  • Transracial Adoption Support: Guidance for families navigating racial identity development and cultural connections.

  • Adolescent Adoption Support: Specialized approaches for families with adopted teens navigating identity, independence, and relationship challenges.

  • Sibling Relationship Building: Strategies for strengthening connections between siblings and addressing common challenges in multi-child adoptive families.

Parent Connection & Community

Connect with other adoptive parents through support groups, events, and peer mentoring opportunities. These connections reduce isolation and provide valuable support from others who understand your journey.

"They know your story and they don't judge. They're there to really support and give a helping hand."

- Angela, Adoptive Parent

"Part of my job is to come in and show them how to make a relationship. It's about learning what the kid likes, your interests, some of their cues to know when they're feeling sad, when they're feeling mad, when they're feeling happy."

Our Family Support Program Process

Our California wraparound services follow a structured four-stage process, adapted to meet the specific needs of families in different regions:

Stage 1: Initial Assessment & Planning

We begin with a comprehensive assessment of your family's strengths, challenges, and goals. This assessment forms the foundation for a personalized support plan that addresses your specific needs and priorities.

Stage 2: Skill Development & Implementation

Through coaching sessions, educational workshops, and practical guidance, you'll develop and implement new skills and strategies. Our team provides support as you apply these approaches in your everyday family interactions.

Stage 3: Progress Evaluation & Adjustment

Regular check-ins allow us to evaluate progress, celebrate successes, and adjust strategies as needed. This ongoing feedback ensures that support remains relevant and effective as your family grows and changes.

Stage 4: Community Integration & Ongoing Support

As formal services reach completion, we help you connect with ongoing support resources and community connections. These relationships provide sustainable support for your family's continued growth and success.

"I work very closely with the families and the parents and the kiddos depending on what they need and their plan of care, establishing unique guidelines to help them lessen all of the stress in their house."
